Marketing On the Cheap!

I was talking to an agent recently who asked me, "What can I do to market myself without spending a lot of money?"  Many business savvy agents have become very good at stretching a dollar.  They have done so using sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to market their business for free. Beyond social networking, there are other ways you can get noticed by consumers without have to shell out a lot of money.  Here are a few that I can share:

 

1. Press Releases: "Do something newsworthy and tell the world," says Rene Siegel, President of High Tech Connect. Says Siegel, "When you support a cause, donate to someone in need, land a big client or speak at an event, write a short paragraph and email it to the business editor of the local paper, online magazines or a relevant trade publication. You don't need to pay a professional PR person to write a formal press release." She adds that booking a speaking opportunity is great free exposure and implies credibility. 

 

I also encourage agents to submit their press releases to www.PR.com a free site that gets exposure for your press releases.

 

2. Cool Cards:  Did you know that if you design a business card on www.VistaPrint.com they will send you 250 full color cards for free? You can choose from 42 templates and just pay shipping and handling.  Your average real estate agent has just one business card which is used for promoting to clients from all different backgrounds.  You can go one step further by having an array of business cards which cater to the different clients you work with.  Have one card that is used to promote to your luxury marketing clientele and one for your distressed property sellers.  You are probably involved in marketing to more than one niche so why not have a business card for each one? Or maybe you want to save a few trees?  Card.ly lets you create an online business card with a photo, bio, and links to all of your social networking profiles.

 

3. Get Online:  If you are trying hard to find some unique marketing ideas, the best piece of advice I can offer is to go online and do research to see what others are doing successfully.  At www.GoodMarketingIdeas.com they share 297 marketing ideas by marketing medium, by cost, and by business type.  As well, RE/MAX Mainstreet has fantastic 5 minute training segments where top agents talk about their marketing successes.
